Hello Vintage!

History is amazing to me
a view back in time
of how things used to be
simple? happier? maybe?
Either way, I get a glimpse
of life before me.

According to my wonderful kids, if it's old I love it!  I'd say, 99% of the time they are correct!

I happened to be wandering in a store over the weekend when my eyes fell upon numerous Look, Saturday Evening Post and Life Magazines from the 1950's and early 1960's all bundled up in packages and waiting for someone who loves vintage to buy them.  The someone...me.  I love reading the stories, looking at the ad's and taking a trip back through history.

Look Magazine-October 14, 1958 .20 to purchase Elizabeth Taylor-From Tragedy...New Fame

Saturday Evening Post-September 17, 1960 .15 to purchase Inside Blair House; Is There a "Women's Vote?"

My grandfather worked for Borden's for many, many years.  My mom tells me he used to bring home ice cream in big containers and they would get to eat it on the back porch, fond memories for her.  The first thing I thought of when I saw this ad was my mom.  I sent her a pic of it asking, Do you remember Borden's like this?  She promptly replied, Yes!!!  She then went on to tell me that she remembered Look Magazine from way back when, and really liked them.  I can't wait for her to read them and see all the old ads, maybe she'll remember a story or two to tell me. ;)

Happy New Year's Eve!

Happy New Year's Eve!

We will be celebrating quietly at home, how about you?

Pretty vintage New Year postcard, somehow it's survived many, many years without ever being used.  It has a home now in my small collection of New Year cards.

Vintage Thanksgiving Turkey Greeting Postcard

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you have a wonderful day full of good food, great fun, many laughs and a little shopping if that's on your list too!

Vintage Thanksgiving Turkey Greeting Postcard-

I love vintage cards, they really bring the past alive.  You catch a small glimpse into someone's life, most often there's no full address like we have today and certainly no zip code.  The postmarks are hand cancelled and clear and there's always the postage stamp which has hung on to this card for 99 years now!

Thrift Stores are Lovely to Me

Thrift Stores are lovely to me
I never know what I'll see.
Cute old cards,
stationery in a box,
all long forgotten
but still perfect for thoughts.

Home they come
all safe and sound,
time to get ready for another
go around.

Before they depart
I make a few changes,
they get a fresh new look and
now are ageless.

I'm always happy to see boxes like this sitting on a thrift store shelf.  Discarded by prior owners, ignored by other shoppers and just waiting for someone (like me) to give it a new home.  Priced at $1.99, that's just fine.

Took that old worn lid off and found a treasure chest!

Several vintage fold and sends complete with the seals.  I love them all but the one with dogs is my favorite.

Pink, Blue and Cream Stationery with matching envelopes.

Love the edges of this stationery.

Beautiful Gold & White Stationery, this is what originally came in the box.  It's all perfect, in pristine condition...Oh Happy Day!

Purple Polka Dot Iris Stationery

Pink & White Floral Envelopes.

Loved these little Thank You cards-

The back part of these sweet Thank You card's were bent and a bit too yellowed for my taste.  I cut the backs off and attached the fronts to a kraft paper card and then added a little coordinating washi/paper tape.  All freshened up and ready to travel.

I jumped at the chance to pay only a $1.00 for this New Unused Vintage Box of Hallmark Stationery 50 Sheets.

The paper was very basic with nothing printed on it, perfect for me.

Time to dress it up a little-

I'm not sure how but stamps always seem to make their way home with me. ;)  I just picked out a few and some of my favorite color inks and stamped away.

A colorful handmade envelope to complete a little stationery set.

I love bright and happy colors.

Thank You to whomever donated all the wonderful goodies to the thrift store, you made me so happy!  Do you shop at thrift stores too?

USPS Postal Cards

Looking back at the past,
stamps and postcards
were important you see.
We documented leaders,
times and important events
in our our history.

I always have my eyeballs peeled for postcards everywhere I go, a habit after all these years.  In today's world most people would have walked right on by these but I couldn't.  I promise they were calling my name from the shelf they were sitting on, the same way candy corn has been lately.  What call's your name from the shelves?

Happy Mail & Vintage Love

Oh happy day.
Cards and mail, on the way.
Please be quick, please arrive soon.
Make someones day, send them over the moon.

Great mail day! #penpal #letter #mail
Talk about a fantastic mail day!  A letter from my penpal Ana and a beautiful card from Beth in Oregon who reads my blog (waving to Beth)!  They both have amazing handwriting, I was literally giddy over the envelopes alone!  The content sent me over the moon!

Did you know, I love vintage cards too?  Secret's out now. ;)  Sharing a few with you today.  If you have any old cards you're looking to find a new home, always know you can send them my way.
