Nancy from the Netherlands sent me this wonderful letter and enclosed the cutest postcards!  I love making new friends through letters!

On to Touristy Postcards:

Nightviews are still one of my favorite types of tourist cards to receive, this one of the St. Louis Skyline and Eads Bridge is beautiful.


This New York city skyline shows Mid Manhattan from the Hudson River with the Empire State Building in the background.


Beautiful Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.  I remember being on a road trip and driving through the Smoky Mountains,  it's the kind of countryside that takes your breath away.  A memory I will cherish forever.

Houston, Texas also referred to as the Bayou City.  The waterways are part of what keeps Houston in business.  Too humid for me, I couldn't ever live there, I'd melt. ;)

The State Fair of Texas,
Not to be missed.
Fletcher's corny dogs,
Put me in bliss.
Wonderful weather,
Cloudy skies.
Amazing times,
Strengthen family ties.

It's October and in Texas that means, The State Fair of Texas is open!  We never miss going, it's always a good time! 


I was able to get this picture with my i-phone while my dear husband was driving.  You can tell because the tree in the foreground is a blur.  We had beautiful cloudy and cool weather.


Welcome to the State Fair of Texas!


Big Tex-is 52 foot tall.  He wears size 70 boots, a 75 gallon hat, a size 100 180/181 shirt and 284W/185L XXXXXL pair of Dickies jeans. The pants alone require 72 yards of denim and weigh in at 65 pounds.  He talks too!


We got there early and had never seen the midway area so empty and I loved all the colors of blues and greens melding together with the huge Ferris Wheel in the background.

Ok, I must admit the number one main reason I attend the fair is to eat a Fletcher's Corny Dog!  They have been around forever and are hands down the very best, finger licking, amazing, corny dogs you'll ever eat! 



In Texas, most of us folks are mustard lovers!  I eat mine with lots and lots of mustard!  Every bite!  So good!


Every year I ask if they have new postcards available, every year they say no.  Every year, I'm disappointed.  These are the few I have in my collection, as you will see, only one could be considered "modern".


The Centennial Building, erected as part of the 1936 Texas Centennial Celebration, now houses exhibits from around the world during the 17 day State Fair of Texas.

Thank goodness they used to have this card, it's our favorite ride!  Love Bugs, you can't go the Texas State Fair and skip this ride, it's too much fun!

I love mapcards, old and new and especially if they are about Texas!  This is a true gem and all about "Texas & Proud Texans" of course!

Texas Is:
SO BIG that they practice 'round the world flying here without ever crossing the border!
SO FLAT that they put signs up to the tell the rivers which way to run!
SO WILD that not even the law of gravity is obeyed.
SO WOOLLY that they supply 35% of U.S. wool and 90% of the mohair and still have enough left to pull the wool over your eyes!

Texans Are:
SO PROUD that it takes 10-gallon hats to contain the swellhead!
SO RUGGED that the wild Indians, buffalo herds and longhorns just gave up and disappeared!
SO INDEPENDENT that they have their own Independence Day! (March 2nd, when they became an independent nation in 1836.)
SO HOSPITABLE they don't care who comes to Texas!
